Ingredients

Beef Burgers:

  • 500g lean minced beef
  • 1 small onion, grated coarsely or chopped finely
  • 3 button mushrooms, chopped finely
  • ¼ cup chopped parsley
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • About ½ cup fresh wholemeal or wholegrain breadcrumbs
  • To cook – 1 – 2 tsp oil

Chicken Burgers:

  • 500g lean chicken mince
  • 1 egg
  • 2 spring onions, chopped
  • 1 carrot, grated
  • 2 – 3 tsp sweet chilli sauce
  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley
  • ½ cup fresh wholemeal or wholegrain breadcrumbs
  • Pepper
  • For cooking – 1 – 2 tsp oil

Directions

  • Combine all ingredients for either Beef Burgers or Chicken Burgers. Mix using hands or a wooden spoon until mixture is slightly sticky. Wash hands.
  • Using slightly moistened hands, form mixture into burgers and place on a plate. Cover and set aside in refrigerator until ready to cook.
  • Heat non-stick frying pan over medium – high heat. Add oil sparingly and cook burgers 2 – 3 minutes each side or until cooked through. Drain on paper towel.
