Broccoli is an edible green plant in the cabbage family whose large flowering head is eaten as a vegetable.
Look for broccoli with bright green heads – try to find compact clusters of the broccoli florets. The more open the florets, the older and closer to flowering the florets are.
Choose firm, strong stems and stalks and avoid purchasing broccoli with yellow flowers.
Store broccoli in the refrigerator and keep it dry.
One of the most nutritious vegetables, broccoli contains vitamins A and E, folate, calcium and iron. It has a higher vitamin C content than oranges.
