Queensland Strawberries are available from May to October.
Did you know that on average there are 200 seeds on each strawberry? Strawberries are not actually a berry but a member of the rose family and the real fruits are actually the tiny yellow seeds on their outsides.
Strawberry runners (plants) are grown in regions such as Toolangi (Vic), Stanthorpe (Qld) and Tasmania, where there is adequate chill to induce flowering, once planted.
Choose strawberries which are plump, bright and even-coloured. Flavour varies with variety and ripeness.
Stawberries are an excellent source of Vitamin C, and just 100g has a whole day’s supply.
